Job summary

NZCL is seeking a part-time Support Worker in Wellington to assist rangitahi and their families in living meaningful, self-directed lives. You will engage hands-on in home and community settings, helping families access activities and supports that matter to them.

Key duties include supporting education access, monitoring health and wellbeing, and empowering young people to pursue personal goals. A full driver’s license is essential and the role offers competitive pay and learning opportunities.

Qualifications

• Experience working with rangitahi/young people is preferred.
• Understanding of Intellectual Disability and Autism is desirable.
• Full driver’s license and access to a vehicle are essential.

We are looking for a part time Support Worker in Wellington, to provide support for Rangitahi and Tamariki and the family, fostering their self-determination and empowering them to lead a valued life on their own terms.

The hours for this role will start at 26 per week with the opportunity to increase these hours over time. We prefer someone who can work the following roster Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday

What does a Support Worker do? | He aha te mahi a te Kaimahi Tautoko

As a support worker, your primary role is to facilitate the family's journey toward a valued life of their choosing. You will actively engage with them in a hands-on capacity and collaborate closely with them.

You will support people in their home and community to lead fulfilling and meaningful lives to achieve their personal dreams and goals by doing the things they want to do such as going swimming, attending sporting events, arts and crafts, movies, or shopping - the list is endless!

Key responsibilities include but not limited to:

• Invest in creating a supportive environment for the family, focusing on their aspirations and independence rather than waiting for a crisis to arise.
• Support tamariki or rangitahi to go to school or access education.
• Observe and respond to health concerns or support the overall health and wellbeing of the young person
• Support rangitahi/young people to work towards and attain their goals and improve outcomes.
• Tailor supports to the family's unique needs and goals, adopting a holistic approach that encompasses all aspects of their life.
• Provide simple, flexible supports that the family can readily use to enhance their life.

• Previous experience working with young people/rangitahi.
• An understanding of Intellectual Disability and Autism.
• Full driver's license and owning your own vehicle is essential.
• A desire to support people to learn new skills and achieve outcomes.
• Somebody who has the initiative to push people for their goals, is energetic, outgoing, and can think outside the box. You need to be respectful of others thinking, and their way of living life that may be different to your own.
