Job summary

SPCA Wellington Centre is seeking a qualified Veterinary Nurse for a fixed-term role until December 2027. The position is full-time (40 hours/week) with a Monday–Friday roster and occasional weekends.

You will assist vets, manage surgical prep, and support animal welfare across domestic, un-socialised, and wildlife animals. You will collaborate within a dynamic team to deliver care, maintain records, and uphold hygiene standards.

Qualifications

• A recognised Veterinary Nursing qualification.
• Experience (3+ years ideally)in a clinical setting (shelter medicine is a bonus).
• Strong organisational, communication and multitasking skills.
• Ability to educate and support others in animal welfare best practices.
• Commitment to high standards of animal care, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Provide vet nursing care and support across animals and assist vets with surgeries and treatments.
• Prepare surgical environments and maintain accurate documentation and records.
• Support foster carers and volunteers with safe, consistent care.
• Maintain hygiene protocols and a safe environment for animals, staff and the public.
• Deliver animal enrichment and health programs in line with welfare standards.
• Build relationships with staff, volunteers, stakeholders and suppliers.

We have a rewarding opportunity for a qualified Veterinary Nurse to join our WellingtonCentre. This is a fixed-term role until December 2027, full-time, 40 hours per week. The roster is mostly Monday to Friday, working only every 5th weekend (with weekdays off during that week).

You will provide professional vet nursing care and support across a variety of animals (domestic, un-socialised, and wildlife) and assist vets with surgeries, treatments and the preparation of surgical environments. You will ensure accurate and timely completion of documentation, reports, and records and support foster carers and volunteers to provide safe and consistent care. You will maintain hygiene protocols and ensure a safe environment for animals, staff, and the public.

You will deliver animal enrichment and health programs in line with SPCA's welfare standards and build strong relationships with staff, volunteers, stakeholders, and suppliers.
