Job summary

Macmahon Underground is recruiting an experienced Underground Mining Superintendent for the Snowy River Gold Mine Project near Reefton, NZ. You will lead underground development, production and backfill with a focus on safety, reliability and high performance.

Reporting to the Project Manager, the role offers FIFO opportunities from Australia and New Zealand, with a strong safety culture and collaborative leadership.

Qualifications

• Underground Mine Superintendent experience required.
• Valid statutory supervisor certificates listed above.
• Ability to build trust and set clear standards.
• Strong planning, problem-solving and stakeholder skills.
• Commitment to safe, high-quality delivery.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and execute the underground mining schedule to achieve production targets.
• Manage rosters, workforce planning, and personnel deployment.
• Lead performance management, coaching, and development activities for site teams.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships and act as the project liaison.
• Facilitate and lead safety, planning meetings; drive continuous improvement.

About the Role

Macmahon Underground is returning to New Zealand and seeking experienced Underground Mining Superintendent to join the Snowy River Gold Mine Project near Reefton on New Zealand’s South Island. As part of this exciting opportunity, Macmahon will deliver underground development, production and backfill services from October 2026. Reporting directly to the Project Manager, this is an outstanding opportunity for a proven underground mining leader to inspire high-performing teams, drive operational excellence, and play a key role in the success of a major project.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and execute the underground mining schedule to achieve production targets.
• Manage rosters, workforce planning, and personnel deployment.
• Lead performance management, coaching, and development activities for site teams.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships and act as the key project liaison.
• Facilitate and lead operational, safety, and planning meetings.
• Drive a high-performance culture focused on safety, productivity, and continuous improvement.

What You’ll Bring

• Demonstrated experience in an Underground Mine Superintendent role
• Hold at least one of the following mining leadership qualifications:
  • S26 Statutory Supervisor Certificate (WA)
  • S123/G189 Mining Supervisor ticket (QLD)
  • S10 Statutory Supervisor Certificate (NSW)
  • B or A Grade NZ Statutory Supervisors ticket
• Ability to build trust, set standards and make clear decisions
• Strong planning,problem-solvingand stakeholder skills
• Commitment to safe, high-quality delivery
• Valid Australian manual drivers’ licence or New Zealand (Class 1)
