About the role | Mō te tūranga

As a Trustee, you will have a unique opportunity to care for New Zealanders by helping them protect their families and their future. You will join a team of 200 across New Zealand, providing advice and guidance on Estate management, Wills, Enduring Power of Attorneys, Personal Assistance, and Trusts. As a key member of our Retail team, you will:

  • Ensure customers receive exceptional service during estate planning conversations, identifying key needs, and offering solutions.
  • Provide administrative support to Principal and Senior Trustees, including preparing probate applications, organising repairs and maintenance for ongoing estates, and other necessary tasks.
  • Maintain accurate customer information and protect sensitive data.
  • Conduct Wills and Enduring Power of Attorney interviews for straightforward cases.
  • Maintain regular contact with customers and ensure all activities are appropriately recorded.
  • Offer outstanding customer service, build trust, and resolve complaints with the customers' best interests at heart.
  • Contribute to a positive team culture by role modelling Public Trust's values and supporting the customer centre in reaching its goals.
  • Provide front-of-house support and undertake general office administration on a rostered basis.

You are passionate about creating amazing customer experiences, with a positive attitude, empathy, and resilience. You excel at building rapport, listening and showing empathy with customers and colleagues.

  • Experience in estate administration, either through professional roles or personal experience managing a loved one's estate.
  • Interest or experience in working with communities, social services, health organisations, or support services.
  • Experience working with customers during significant moments in their lives.
  • Ability to work unsupervised, problem-solve, show initiative, and collaborate with colleagues.
  • Previous experience in a trustee, legal, or financial services role is a plus, as is an understanding of basic accounting concepts.

If you enjoy working with people and naturally build trust through clear, honest conversations, you’ll feel at home in this role. It suits someone who can take complex information and explain it simply, helping customers feel informed, comfortable, and supported. Many people in this role have developed their skills in customer-facing, target-driven environments, where delivering great service and achieving results go hand in hand — and are motivated by working towards clear financial and performance goals.

You might be someone who enjoys structure and takes pride in working in a methodical way — paying attention to detail, following processes, and getting things right the first time. It’s likely you’re used to managing a busy workload, balancing multiple customers and tasks, and knowing how to prioritise to keep things moving without becoming overwhelmed.

A calm, thoughtful communication style goes a long way here — especially when conversations require care, empathy, and sensitivity.

You’llalso be part of a wider team that provides legal and accounting support to families, often during emotionally significant times, which brings an added sense of purpose and meaning to the work.

At its core, this role is a great fit for someone who genuinely enjoys helping others, is motivated by achieving strong results, and wants to do meaningful work that makes a real difference.
