New Zealand Customs Service is seeking a Training & Development Coordinator (fixed term parental leave cover) to support nationwide training delivery. This role coordinates administration, resources, and event management for core programmes, ensuring facilitators and learners have the necessary support for consistent delivery.

The successful candidate will manage LMS and intranet resources, collaborate with the Capability and Design teams, and apply strong project management to keep milestones

About the Role | Mō tēnei tūranga We’re recruiting a Training and Development Coordinator (12-month parental leave cover) to support the delivery of the programmes that build Customs’ frontline capability. The Training and Development Coordinator plays a key role in organising, supporting, and maintaining the systems that make training possible. This includes coordinating Te Ara Ako and Mahia te Mahi (our Basic Training Course) and core technical and specialist training programmes. Your work ensures facilitators, learners, and programme leads have the resources, logistics, and support they need for consistent, effective delivery across the country. The role is responsible for managing the administration and logistics of training delivery across the Operations side of Customs. It provides event management for graduations, ceremonies, and other formal training activities, oversees the development and upkeep of training resources including intranet content, LMS materials, records, and reporting, and works closely with the Learning, Capability and Design team to support continuous evaluation of training delivery. The role also applies strong project management capability to plan wider People and Capability timelines, manage dependencies, track progress, and ensure delivery milestones are met.

About You | Ko wai koe

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Have similar experience ideally gained in Human Resources, or Training/ Learning and Development teams.
  • Show strong judgment, initiative, and a willingness to go the extra mile to ensure tasks and issues are resolved in a timely manner, including travelling to meet team needs.
  • Excellent computer skills including confidence using multiple applications, and an understanding of database concepts.
  • Highly organised, with a genuine enjoyment of managing multiple tasks and duties efficiently.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage time, set priorities, and meet deadlines while also enjoys working as part of a team and maintaining strong working relationships.
  • Strong project management capability—able to plan work, coordinate stakeholders, manage schedules, and keep delivery on track.

To be considered for this position, you must:

  • Be able to pass a drug test.
  • Be able to obtain and maintain an organisational security clearance.
