Job summary

Awanui Group is seeking a Trainee – Patient Services in Auckland. This permanent, full-time role offers hands-on experience across multiple collection centres within WDHB Cluster 2D, including Te Atatu, Massey, Henderson, Kumeu, Helensville and Ranui.

  • Collect blood samples from patients in community and hospital settings.

  • Ensure accurate labelling, handling, and transport of patient specimens.
  • Support the processing and testing of specimens within a state-of-the-art medical laboratory.
  • Maintain patient care, confidentiality, and quality standards at all times.

Our team of specialist pathologists, scientists, technicians, phlebotomists, couriers, and shared services personnel deliver a world-class service that together collects, analyzes, and reports over 7 million patient results annually.

Our Patient Services Department is responsible for the collection of blood samples and handling contained specimens, i.e., human blood, faeces, urine, tissue etc from patients within the community and the hospital. These samples are then processed and tested in our state-of-the-art medical laboratory.

About the role | Mō te tūranga:

Our Patient Services Department is currently seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Trainee to join our friendly team. This is a permanent, full-time position of 80 hours per fortnight.

This offers hands-on experience across multiple collection centres within
WDHB Cluster 2D, Including Te Atatu, Massey, Henderson, Kumeu, Helensville and Ranui.

Key Responsibilities:

If you are not already registered with the Medical Science Council of New Zealand, we will support you working towards becoming a Qualified Medical Laboratory Pre-Analytical Technician within 2 years of employment.
