Job summary

NZ Safety Blackwoods is seeking an experienced people leader to own the Petone Trade Centre, building a high-performing team, strengthening customer relationships and delivering strong commercial results.

You will lead day-to-day performance, manage resources and expenses, optimize inventory and debtor matters, and drive a safe, customer-focused environment where staff are coached to succeed.

NZ Safety Blackwoods is looking for an experienced people leader to take ownership of our Petone Trade Centre. This is an opportunity to make your mark by building a high-performing team, strengthening customer relationships, and delivering strong commercial and operational results.

About The Opportunity

Reporting to the Regional Manager – Trade Centres, you will lead the day-to-day performance of the Trade Centre. You will allocate resources and manage expenses, inventory, and debtors to achieve budgeted KPIs and meet or exceed revenue and profitability requirements.

You will lead from the front, creating a safe, customer-focused and highly engaged environment where people are coached to succeed, and customers receive knowledgeable, personalised service.

What you will be responsible for

Lead people and safety

• Build an engaged, high-performing team and model company values and behaviours.
• Coach, develop and support team members through regular one-on-ones, development plans and succession planning.
• Lead recruitment, induction, training and performance processes.
• Drive a proactive safety culture and ensure compliance with safe operating procedures.

Deliver customer and sales growth

• Lead a customer-centric culture and consistently deliver high service standards.
• Build strong relationships with key local customers and identify opportunities to grow share of wallet.
• Coach the team on sales processes, customer engagement and retail fundamentals.
• Deliver revenue, margin, basket-size and other agreed performance targets.

Own commercial performance

• Manage expenses, banking, customer credits, supplier purchases and outstanding debtor matters within delegated authority.
• Monitor performance against budget and take action to improve revenue and profitability.

Run an excellent Trade Centre

• Oversee inventory processes, stock accuracy, loss prevention and category performance.
• Maintain high standards of store presentation, visual merchandising and store execution.
• Review stock gaps, sell-through and local ranging, taking corrective action where needed.

Collaborate for regional success

• Partner with Account Managers, sales teams, support functions and the wider Trade Centre network.
• Escalate and resolve issues affecting customer orders or Trade Centre performance.

Champion continuous improvement

• Use customer feedback, store audits and operational results to identify and address improvement opportunities.
• Promote learning and ensure the team actively participates in required training.
