Job summary

Auckland & Beyond Tours in Auckland seeks an enthusiastic Tour Guide/Driver on a contract basis. You will combine professional driving with engaging storytelling to create memorable journeys for guests, guiding groups both in-vehicle and on-foot across Auckland and nearby regions.

The ideal candidate will hold a current NZ Class 1 licence, have tour guiding experience, and possess strong communication and organisational skills. First Aid certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• Current, valid NZ Class 1 driving licence with a clean record and P endorsement preferred.
• Demonstrated experience as a tour guide or driver in hospitality/tourism.
• Strong knowledge of NZ attractions, history, geography and culture or willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate vehicles and transport tour groups to destinations.
• Provide engaging commentary about local attractions, history, culture and nature.
• Ensure passenger comfort and safety throughout tours.

About the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic Tour Guide/Driver to join our team on a contract basis. Based in Auckland, this role is fundamental to delivering outstanding tour experiences to our diverse clientele.

As a Tour Guide/Driver, you will be the face of Auckland & Beyond Tours, combining excellent driving skills with engaging storytelling to create unforgettable journeys for our guests. This position requires you to operate both in-vehicle and on-foot, guiding groups through iconic locations and hidden gems throughout Auckland and beyond.

Our fleet consists of luxury Mercedes vehicles ranging from 5 seater SUVs, 7 seater minivans to 12 & 20 seater Mercedes Sprinters. (All automatic and class 1)

Key responsibilities

• Operate vehicles safely and professionally, transporting tour groups to various destinations
• Provide engaging, informative commentary about local attractions, history, culture and natural features
• Ensure the comfort and safety of all passengers throughout each tour
• Plan and organise tour itineraries to maximise guest experience and satisfaction
• Maintain vehicles to ensure they are clean, well-maintained and in good working order
• Manage group dynamics and respond professionally to passenger requests and concerns
• Adhere to all traffic regulations and safety protocols at all times
• Liaise with local businesses, attractions and accommodation providers as needed
• Maintain accurate records of tours, passenger numbers and any incidents
• Contribute to positive online reviews and customer feedback through exceptional service delivery

What we’re looking for

• Current, valid driving licence with a clean driving record (NZ Class 1 with P endorsment)
• Demonstrated experience as a tour guide, tour driver or in a similar customer-facing role within the hospitality or tourism sector is a bonus.
• In-depth knowledge of NZ attractions, history, geography and local culture, or a strong willingness to develop this knowledge
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage diverse groups of people
• Strong organisational and time management abilities
• Reliability and punctuality with a professional attitude
• Physical fitness and ability to walk extended distances and navigate various terrain
• Current First Aid certification
• Passion for sharing local knowledge and creating memorable experiences for guests
