Job summary

Kinetic Recruitment is seeking an experienced Technical Trainer & Assessor for a newly created nationwide role in New Zealand’s electrical and power sectors. You’ll deliver practical training, assess learner competency and mentor learners across Level 4 Electrical Trade and Level 5 Power Technician programs.

This permanent, full-time position offers flexible basing around New Zealand and travel to support learners nationwide.

Job description

Are you an experienced electrical or power industry professional who enjoys developing people and passing on your technical knowledge?

We're recruiting a newly created Technical Trainer & Assessor position with a national organisation supporting the development of New Zealand's infrastructure workforce.

This is a great opportunity for someone who understands the electrical and power sector but also has experience in training, tutoring, assessment or workplace learning.

You'll be supporting learners completing Level 4 Electrical Trade and Level 5 Power Technician programmes, delivering practical, learner-focused training while helping people build the technical capability they need to succeed in the industry.

The role

Working closely with learners, employers and internal learning teams, you'll be responsible for delivering quality training, assessment, coaching and mentoring across the programmes.

Your role will include:

• Delivering technical training across Electrical Trade Level 4 and Power Technician Level 5 programmes
• Assessing learner competency and marking technical work
• Coaching and mentoring learners throughout their training journey
• Breaking down complex technical information into clear, practical learning
• Providing constructive feedback and supporting learners with different levels of experience and capability
• Working alongside programme and learning development teams to continually improve training and assessment
• Contributing to the development and improvement of learning resources
• Building strong relationships with employers, learners and industry stakeholders
• Travelling nationally when required to support learners and employers

About you

We're looking for someone who combines strong electrical or power industry knowledge with the ability to teach, assess and develop others.

Ideally, you'll bring:

• A relevant electrical, power or technical trade qualification
• Electrical Trade Level 4 and/or Power Technician Level 5 knowledge or equivalent industry experience
• Previous tutoring, training, assessing or technical mentoring experience
• Experience marking and assessing learner work
• The ability to explain complex technical concepts in a straightforward and engaging way
• Strong planning, organisation and problem-solving skills
• Confidence working with learners and stakeholders from a range of backgrounds
• The ability to work collaboratively across different teams
• A willingness to travel nationally as required

A New Zealand Certificate in Adult and Tertiary Teaching Level 5 would be highly regarded, although candidates currently working towards this or with equivalent teaching capability will also be considered.

An assessor qualification such as Unit Standard 4098 would also be advantageous but is not essential.
