Job summary

Norwood Limited is seeking a Technical Product Specialist for XCMG construction equipment in New Zealand. You will provide expert product knowledge, technical support, and training across the XCMG range, supporting branch sales teams, demonstrations and commissioning.

You will work closely with Norwood's National Commercial Manager to deliver customer-focused technical expertise and contribute to sales growth across branches and dealers.

Responsibilities

• Provide field-based product knowledge and support from inquiry to delivery.
• Support branch sales with presentations, demonstrations, tenders and opportunities.
• Develop and deliver technical training, operator familiarisation, and product guides.
• Assist with machine commissioning, handover, troubleshooting and safety guidance.
• Organise demonstrations, field days, trade shows and events requiring technical input.
• Coordinate with XCMG factory staff and provide market feedback for product improvements.
• Monitor market trends and support new product introductions and positioning.
• Support service with warranty information flow and future EV/hybrid scope.

About the Role

The Technical Product Specialist – XCMG is responsible for providing expert product knowledge, technical support, training and product development across the XCMG construction equipment range in New Zealand.

Acting as the primary product expert for XCMG, you will support branch sales teams with customer presentations and major sales opportunities, conduct machine demonstrations, assist with machine specification and commissioning, develop product training resources, and ensure structured market feedback is shared with XCMG to support continuous product improvement.

Working closely with the Norwood National Commercial Manager, branch sales teams, service departments, marketing and XCMG personnel, this role is critical in helping Norwood deliver industry-leading technical expertise, customer support and sales growth.

What you will do

Working across the XCMG product range, you will provide practical field-based support from customer enquiry through to machine delivery, operator familiarisation, aftersales support and product feedback.

Your primary responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

• Build and maintain expert knowledge of the XCMG construction equipment range, including specifications, features, attachments, technology and competitive advantages
• Support branch sales teams with customer presentations, product demonstrations, machine specification, tenders and major sales opportunities
• Develop and deliver technical product training, operator familiarisation, training resources, product guides and online learning material
• Support machine commissioning, customer handover, troubleshooting and safe operation guidance alongside Norwood service teams
• Organise and support product demonstrations, field days, trade shows, customer events and marketing content requiring technical input
• Develop strong working relationships with XCMG factory personnel, coordinate training and provide structured feedback on New Zealand market requirements
• Monitor competitor products, market trends and customer needs to support new product introductions, product positioning and future specification recommendations
• Assist the local branches to manage Warranty claims, ensuring XCMG have all the information they require while keeping customers informed
• Support Service department with development to accommodate heavy construction machinery with future scope to support EV and hybrid machines

About You

You are a practical, customer-focused technical specialist who enjoys working in the field, supporting people, solving problems and helping customers get the best from their equipment. You bring:

• Strong technical knowledge of construction machinery, heavy equipment, capital equipment or a closely related industry
• Confidence delivering product demonstrations, operator familiarisation, technical training or customer handovers
• The ability to support sales opportunities by translating technical features into practical customer value
• Strong relationship skills and credibility when working with customers, sales teams, service teams, suppliers and internal stakeholders
• A practical problem-solving approach, with the confidence to assist with troubleshooting, commissioning and field-based product support
• Commercial awareness and curiosity about market trends, competitor products, customer applications and product improvement opportunities
• A strong commitment to safe work practices, professional customer support and representing Norwood and XCMG to a high standard

Preferred Experience

• Experience with construction equipment, excavators, loaders, rollers, telehandlers or related heavy machinery would be highly regarded
• Previous experience in a product specialist, technical sales support, field service, operator training or applications support role would be advantageous
• An understanding of telematics, GPS machine control, attachments, electric or hybrid equipment, and fleet management technologies would be beneficial

Location and Travel

This role is expected to be based in Christchurch or Pukekohe, with regular national travel required to support Norwood branches, customers, dealers, demonstrations, training and industry events.
