Job summary

Alliance Group's Mataura Plant in Southland seeks a senior compliance and quality systems leader to drive food safety, quality, verification, animal welfare and regulatory programmes. You will guide teams, communicate with auditors, regulators and customers, and apply a practical, systems-based approach in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. As a people leader, you will coach for success, manage risk, and balance budgets.

Qualifications

• Experience leading compliance and quality systems in manufacturing.
• Proven ability to lead teams and manage cross-functional projects.
• Strong knowledge of food safety legislation and MPI requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the Mataura Plant technical and compliance teams to build a high-performance culture.
• Support the Plant Manager with strategic initiatives, business planning and continuous improvement.
• Maintain hygienic product handling and processing methods across the beef operation.
• Manage internal and external compliance verification audits with customers, regulators and auditors.
• Maintain and improve quality and compliance systems (RMP, HACCP) to meet regulatory requirements.

Lead the Mataura Plant's technical and compliance teams and ensure the effective delivery of food safety, quality, verification, animal welfare and regulatory programmes. As an experienced compliance and quality systems leader, you will bring sound judgement, strong attention to detail and a practical, systems-focused approach. You communicate confidently with teams, senior leaders, customers, auditors and regulatory representatives, and you can plan, analyse issues and solve problems in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. As a people leader, you set clear expectations, coach for success and create a high-performance culture. You are comfortable managing risk, responding to adverse events, leading change and balancing operational priorities with agreed budgets and business objectives.

Key responsibilities

Lead and develop the Mataura Plant technical and compliance teams, creating a high-performance culture through clear objectives, regular communication, coaching and accountability.

Contribute as a key member of the Mataura Management Team and support the Plant Manager with strategic initiatives, business planning and continuous improvement.

Maintain hygienic product handling and processing methods across the large beef processing operation.

Manage internal and external compliance verification audits and maintain site readiness for customers, regulators and other interested parties.

Maintain and improve quality and compliance systems, including RMP, HACCP and associated policies and procedures, to meet customer, overseas market access and regulatory requirements.

Maintain PBV Step 6 and ensure animal welfare compliance is consistently achieved.

Build constructive working relationships with the Ministry for Primary Industries, AsureQuality and their on-site representatives.

About you

Previous experience in compliance and quality systems within a manufacturing environment.

Tertiary qualification in Microbiology, Food Technology or a related discipline.

Industry qualifications in HACCP, animal welfare and internal auditing.

Working knowledge of relevant food safety legislation, MPI requirements and the Health and Safety at Work Act.

Confident using IT and common business software.
