Job summary

Dunedin City Council – Dunedin, South Island is seeking an experienced Team Leader for Te Puna o Whakaehu to oversee daily operations of our new aquatic facility, lead staff, ensure a safe, welcoming experience for customers and manage health and safety compliance.

You will drive continuous improvement, collaborate with contractors and council teams, and be prepared to provide operations support outside normal hours.

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading and developing teams in aquatics or recreation.
• Experience in aquatics, recreation, or customer service environments.
• Strong health and safety and risk management knowledge.
• Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Strong communication and relationship-building abilities.

Responsibilities

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced leader to join us as Team Leader - Te Puna o Whakaehu, helping to ensure our newest aquatic facility operates at its very best.

The opportunity:

As Team Leader - Te Puna o Whakaehu, you'll be responsible for the day-to-day leadership and operation of the facility. You'll lead a team of dedicated staff, ensure a safe and positive experience for customers, oversee facility operations, manage health and safety and compliance requirements, and support continuous improvement across the site. This is a varied and hands-on leadership role where no two days are the same. You'll work closely with staff, contractors, community groups, and Council teams to deliver high-quality aquatic and recreation services for the people of Dunedin. You may also be required to provide operational support outside normal business hours when needed.

Ideally you will have:

• Proven experience leading and developing teams.
• Experience in aquatics, recreation, leisure, operational, or customer service environments.
• Strong understanding of health and safety and risk management practices.
• Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and customer management systems.

Salary range: $89,038 - $104,751
