Job summary

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi seeks a Team Lead Environmental Planning to guide a specialist environmental planning team through planning, consenting and environmental outcomes for major transport projects.

You'll provide strategic leadership, mentor staff, and coordinate with iwi, councils and agencies to deliver sustainable, nationally significant infrastructure in a collaborative, inclusive environment.

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading and developing teams.
• Extensive background in environmental/resource planning or statutory processes.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management.
• Ability to navigate complex consent and planning challenges.
• Strategic thinker with ability to balance priorities and deliver outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a high-performing environmental planning team.
• Provide technical leadership, coaching and development.
• Influence planning and consenting outcomes across multiple projects.
• Collaborate with iwi, local authorities and agencies to deliver transport outcomes.
• Represent NZTA in regional and national forums and manage complex processes.
