Job summary

Plumbing World is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to oversee, monitor, and modernise our IT infrastructure across on-prem and cloud environments. You will lead projects from our roadmap, implement new systems, and work with vendors to ensure secure, reliable services for our nationwide operations.

The role requires strong Windows/Active Directory, Azure/M365, hybrid cloud experience, and hands-on networking.

Qualifications

  • Recognised tertiary computer science qualification or similar preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in a role as Systems Administrator/Systems Engineer/DevOps/Cloud Engineer.
  • Strong experience managing Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune, and hybrid cloud environments.
  • Proven expertise in Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, VMware, and SQL Server administration.
  • Hands-on experience managing network infrastructure (LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, VPNs, firewalls).
  • Solid understanding of cybersecurity principles (endpoint protection, email security, vulnerability management, patching, incident response).
  • Experience administering Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, and M365 services.
  • Knowledge of IAM, SSO, certificates, access controls.
  • Experience deploying endpoint devices using Intune, SCCM, and modern workplace tech.
  • Ability to lead infrastructure projects (upgrades, migrations, cloud implementations).
  • Proficiency in PowerShell scripting and automation.
  • Strong troubleshooting and complex issue resolution skills.
  • Experience working with external vendors and stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of Dynamics 365, Power BI, APIs and deployment pipelines would be advantageous.
  • Experience with mobile device deployments and MDM solutions (Intune).
  • Excellent communication and high attention to detail.
  • Passion for delivering excellent customer service.

About the opportunity

We are looking for an experienced specialist with a background in systems, networking, and cloud wizardry, you'll be diving into the exciting world of infrastructure.

Your mission? To oversee, monitor, and revolutionise existing systems while also getting your hands dirty with implementing and configuring new systems - both on-prem and in the cloud. This is your chance to enhance your IT skills while having a blast in a fun and friendly team.

The purpose of this role is to ensure the IT Section delivers a robust and fit-for-purpose infrastructure by future proofing through implementation and delivery of projects identified in the roadmap, whilst proactively monitoring, supporting, and maintaining the existing environments.

To be successful in this role you will need:
  • Recognised tertiary computer science qualification or similar preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in a prior role as a Systems Administrator, Systems Engineer, Developer, DevOps Engineer, or Cloud Engineer.
  • Strong experience managing and supporting Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune, and hybrid cloud environments.
  • Proven expertise in Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, VMware, and SQL Server administration.
  • Hands-on experience managing network infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, VPNs, firewalls, and internet connectivity.
  • Solid understanding of cybersecurity principles, including endpoint protection, email security, vulnerability management, patching, and incident response.
  • Experience administering and supporting Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive.
  • Strong knowledge of identity and access management, authentication, single sign-on (SSO), certificates, and access controls.
  • Experience deploying and managing endpoint devices using Intune, SCCM, and modern workplace technologies.
  • Ability to lead and deliver infrastructure projects, including upgrades, migrations, cloud implementations, and platform modernisation initiatives.
  • Proficiency in PowerShell scripting and automation to improve operational efficiency and system management.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage complex L2/L3 technical issues through to resolution.
  • Experience working with external vendors, service providers, and stakeholders to deliver reliable and secure IT services.
  • Knowledge of business platforms and integrations such as Dynamics 365, Power BI, APIs, and deployment pipelines would be advantageous.
  • Experience managing mobile device deployments and MDM solutions, including Microsoft Intune, is desirable.
  • Excellent analytical skills, supported by strong attention to detail, accuracy, and high work output.
  • Ability to work under pressure while meeting tight deadlines.
  • High level of oral and written communication skills.
  • A real passion for delivering excellent customer service to internal and external networks.
