Job summary

IDEA Services in New Zealand is seeking a compassionate Support Worker to empower people with intellectual disabilities to live fulfilling lives at home and in the community. You will help develop daily living skills, support personal care, and encourage participation in goals and hobbies.

The role offers flexible rosters, a supportive team, access to certificates in health and wellbeing, and benefits after two years. A full NZ driver’s licence and comfortable use of computers are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Support Worker is preferred, with a positive attitude and compassion.
  • Willingness to work a mix of days, evenings, and overnight shifts.
  • Calm demeanor and confidence to manage challenging behaviours.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

  • Build independence by helping clients develop daily living skills.

As a Support Worker, you will empower individuals with intellectual disabilities to lead fulfilling lives at home and within their community. This role is deeply meaningful, allowing you to be creative and make each day engaging and significant for those you support. Your responsibilities include:

Building independence:Help people grow their daily living skills, from catching public transport to cooking their own meals.

Supporting daily life:Assist with personal care routines such as showering, getting dressed, and taking medication.

Pursuing goals and interests:Encourage and support people to engage in their interests, hobbies, and personal goals.

Staying healthy and well:Support healthy choices and overall wellbeing in a way that works for each person.

Supporting complex behaviours:Provide calm, consistent support with behaviour management, ensuring dignity, safety, and respect.

Creating connections:Support and strengthen relationships with whĉnau, colleagues, and the wider community.

  • Previous experience as a Support Worker is preferred, but more importantly, we are looking for someonewitha positive attitude and compassion.
  • Flexibility to work rostered shifts.
  • A calm nature and confidence to work with challenging behaviours.
  • Comfortable and proficient in using computers and tablets daily.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Physical fitness to provide necessary physical support.
  • A Full NZ driver’s licence
Nōu te rourou | What’s in it for you?

$24.68 - $30.13 per hour, depending on relevant qualifications, with opportunities to earn more as you gain further qualifications.

IDEA Services will support you to complete Level 2, 3, and 4 Certificates in Health and Wellbeing.
