Job summary

IDEA Services in Tauranga is seeking a dedicated Support Worker to provide care for adults with intellectual disabilities in their own homes. You will contribute to safety, independence, and community involvement, with a changing fortnightly roster and a mix of day, evening, weekend, and sleepover shifts.

Previous caregiving experience is preferred. A calm, confident approach to challenging behaviours, strong communication, and computer/tablet use are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience in caregiving or personal care for adults is preferred.
• Calm nature with confidence to handle challenging behaviours.
• Flexibility to work rotating shifts including weekends and sleepovers.
• Ability to use computers/tablets daily and document care.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Full NZ driver’s license and right to work in NZ.

IDEA Services supports people with intellectual disabilities to enjoy great lives at home and as part of their community. You will be supporting people with intellectual disabilities living in their own homes to achieve their goals and aspirations. Enjoy variety in your work by providing planned leave cover across different services, with a changing fortnightly roster and a mix of shift types.

As a Support Worker you will be supporting clients with complex needs, managing risk, ensuring safety, and providing individual care throughout the night.

This role involves helping the people we support to:

• recognise and respond to emotional overwhelm.
• grow their independence and learn skills for daily living such as using public transport, getting a job, cooking a meal.
• manage their daily routines - toileting, showering, getting dressed, take medication or eat a meal.
• pursue their goals, interests, and hobbies.
• stay healthy and making positive choices about their lifestyle.
• have strong connections with their whŏu and community.

Previous relevant experience is preferred, but more importantly, we are looking for someone with varied life experience and the right attitude.

• Preferably previous experience in caregiving or providing personal care for adults.
• A calm nature and confidence to work with challenging behaviours.
• Availability to work flexible shifts, including weekends and sleepover shifts.
• Comfortable and proficient in using computers and tablets daily.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Physical fitness to provide necessary physical support.
• Full NZ driver's license.
• Full rights to work in NZ.
