Job summary

IDEA Services invites applications for a Support Worker based in Oamaru, with a 65+ hour fortnightly schedule and varied rosters. You will empower individuals with intellectual disabilities to live fulfilling lives at home and in the community, supporting routines, health and wellbeing, and community connections.

The role requires compassion, relevant experience in health or disability services, flexibility, strong communication, and a valid NZ driver’s licence.

Qualifications

• Compassionate, people-first approach focused on wellbeing and individuality.

• Ability to work a varied roster including mornings, evenings, sleepovers and weekends.
• Clear and respectful communication with participants, whānau and colleagues.
• Ability to provide hands-on support and assist with physical tasks.

This role is deeply meaningful, allowing you to be creative and make each day engaging and significant for those you support. You’ll support people with daily routines, independence, health and wellbeing, interests and goals, while helping them stay connected with their whānau and community.

• A compassionate, people-first approach – you genuinely care about the wellbeing, dignity and individuality of the people you support.
• Relevant experience – previous experience in health, disability, community or support services, working with people with diverse needs.
• Flexibility and availability – comfortable working a varied roster including morning, evening, weekend and sleepover shifts.
• Strong communication skills – confident communicating clearly and respectfully with the people you support, whānau and colleagues.
• Physical fitness – able to provide hands‑on support and assist with physical tasks when required.
• A full NZ drivers licence – with no supervisor conditions.
