Job summary

IDEA Services supports the people it serves through flexible casual roles based in North Shore, Auckland. This summer position offers shifts as needed with no guaranteed hours, ideal for students seeking extra work during breaks.

You will empower individuals with intellectual disabilities to lead fulfilling lives at home and in the community, helping with daily living, personal care, transport, and pursuing interests while maintaining dignity and safety.

Qualifications

  • No prior experience in health or disability sector is necessary, but a positive attitude, enthusiasm and willingness to learn are valued.
  • Availability to work rostered shifts, including mornings, evenings, overnight sleepovers and regular weekend shifts.
  • Be prepared to work with people with challenging behaviours and/or physical disabilities or other health needs.
  • Comfortable and proficient in using computers and tablets daily.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Physical fitness to provide necessary physical support.
  • A Full NZ drivers licence.

Responsibilities

  • Building independence: Help people grow daily living skills, from catching public transport to cooking their own meals.
  • Supporting daily life: Assist with personal care routines such as showering, getting dressed, taking medication and looking after their own home.
  • Pursuing goals and interests: Encourage and support people to engage in their interests, hobbies, and personal goals.
  • Staying healthy and well: Support healthy choices and overall wellbeing in a way that works for each person.
  • Supporting complex behaviours: Provide calm, consistent support utilising positive behaviour strategies while ensuring dignity, safety, and respect.
  • Creating connections: Support and strengthen relationships with whānau, colleagues, and the wider community.
