Job summary

Auckland City Mission is seeking a compassionate Support Officer- Āpiha Tautoko to join our team in Auckland. You will work with Concierge Safety to welcome residents and help ensure safety while supporting housing stability and independence for residents.

Qualifications

  • Relevant study in progress or a qualification in Health/ Social/ Psychology fields.
  • Experience with trauma-informed approaches and working with clients who have complex needs.

Responsibilities

  • Develop positive working relationships with clients.
  • Support residents who may benefit from services such as rent payments, neighbour relations, house rules compliance, and linking with health or mental health services.
  • Maintain up-to-date resident information records according to organisational policy.
  • Collaborate with the safety team to coordinate shift tasks, walk-throughs, CCTV monitoring, and incident response.
  • Provide welfare checks for residents as directed by Management or on-call after hours.

The Support Officer- Āpiha Tautoko works alongside Concierge Safety to create a welcoming environment and maintain the safety of residents and visitors. The purpose of this role is to provide support that will enable housing stability and empower residents to become independent, using a person-centred and holistic approach to connect them with services that support them to optimise their mental, physical, and spiritual wellbeing. What you will be doing
  • Develop positive working relationships with clients.
  • Support residents who may benefit from support services with various areas such as rent payments, respecting their neighbours, complying with the house rules, and linking with health or mental health services.
  • Provide all staff with important and relevant resident information by maintaining up to date records in accordance with organisational policy and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the safety team to coordinate and complete shift tasks such as walk throughs, monitoring of CCTV, and critical incident response.
  • Provide welfare checks for residents as directed by Management and/or after hours on call.
What we are looking for
  • Relevant study in progress or a qualification in Bachelor of Health Science, Bachelor of Social work / Practice, Psychology, Mental Health & Addictions, Certificate in Bi Cultural Studies & Psychotherapy.
  • Capacity to demonstrate through actions commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the Mission’s values of Manaakitanga, Atawhai, Rangapū and Mana Tika, Mana Ōrite.
  • An understanding of and ability to build rapport with clients who have complex needs including trauma, mental health, addiction, poverty and homelessness.
  • Ability to engage successfully with a range of clients to assist with completing assessments.
  • An aptitude for getting things done through formal and informal channels.
  • We recognize that skills, experience and knowledge can be gained in a number of ways. This may include paid or voluntary work, experience undertaken through your church, marae, iwi or whānau responsibilities, or other community roles.
