Job summary

Auckland Council is seeking 8x Western Summer Rangers to lead the maintenance and protection of Tamaki Makarau's Western Regional Parks. Roles run 3–4 months on a full-time roster, including every weekend and public holidays over the summer, with mandatory training 16–20 November 2026 at Waitawa Regional Park.

Positions based at Huia, Arataki, or other regional parks, with accommodation available if needed. A clean NZ driver’s licence is preferred and transport costs apply.

Qualifications

  • Clean NZ driver’s licence required, with competent manual driving skills.
  • Strong customer service and public-facing communication skills.
  • Interest in outdoor recreation, conservation or environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with bylaw control and park maintenance across the regional parks network.
  • Maintain bush, signage and arrival areas; support visitor experiences.
  • Engage with the public daily and provide excellent service.

This year we are seeking8x Summer Rangersto take the lead, protecting and enhancing the environment and natural landscapes of Tamaki Makarau'sWestern Regional Parks.

This year we are on the hunt for 8x Western Summer Rangersfor either 3 or 4 months, who will be based at:

  • Huia
  • Arataki
  • One of our other regional parks as needed

These positions will work full-time from either11th November 2026 - 10th February 2027 or 11th November 2026 - 10th March 2027. You will need to be available to attend amandatory training camp from 16th November 2026 - 20th November 2026 at Waitawa Regional Park.

You would work on a roster that includes every weekend and public holiday over the summer period including Christmas and New Years Day

This role pays living wage at $29.90 per hour.

Our Summer Park Rangers are a key part in facilitating safe and enjoyable outdoor recreation and education experiences. The rangers will assist with bylaw control, maintenance of the parks across the network including maintaining bush, signage and arrival areas. Summer Rangers engage with the public daily providing their assistance and excellent customer service.

If required accommodation is available to the Western Summer Rangers, the sector ranger co-ordinators can arrange this and is subject to tenancy agreements. Please note you will need to cover your travel expenses. Preference will be given to applicants who have a clean and full NZ driver’s licence, with competent manual driving skills.
