Job summary

Northpower NZ is seeking an experienced Maintenance Engineer to join our Network team in New Zealand. You will support substation maintenance programmes, analyse asset data, and lead root-cause investigations to improve reliability and safety across the network.

You’ll work with engineers, contractors, and asset specialists to develop standards, oversee maintenance activities, and ensure regulatory and Northpower requirements are met while sustaining performance and resilience of our substations.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• Experience in substation engineering, asset maintenance, or electrical network operations.
• Knowledge of reliability-centred maintenance, root cause analysis, and asset lifecycle management.
• Experience developing maintenance strategies, standards and work programmes.
• Understanding of substation equipment and maintenance practices.

Responsibilities

• Develop and improve substation maintenance programmes and strategies.
• Analyse asset condition and maintenance data to identify risks and opportunities for improvement.
• Perform root cause investigations and implement reliability improvement initiatives.
• Develop maintenance standards, procedures, and quality assurance processes.
• Conduct technical reviews, audits, and assessments of maintenance activities.
• Provide engineering input into substation projects, refurbishments and asset replacement programmes.
• Support contractors with technical guidance and oversight.
• Ensure maintenance practices align with regulatory and Northpower requirements.
• Contribute to the reliability, safety and performance of Northpower's electrical network.
