Job summary

Victoria University of Wellington is seeking a Community Adviser to join the Accommodation Independent Living team in a permanent, part-time role commencing November 2026. The role focuses on creating a safe, inclusive living environment for students and coordinating hall events.

You will work with diverse student cohorts, manage event calendars, assist with budgets and administration, respond to emergencies, and promote positive behaviour across residences while upholding pastoral care

Qualifications

• Proven ability to coordinate events and manage a hall events calendar.
• Experience delivering events and maintaining budgets.
• Ability to work across cultures with Maori, Pasifika, and international students.
• Strong communication via social media and other channels.
• Mature, proactive, and able to think on your feet.
• Valid NZ clean restricted driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Event coordination and administration including establishing your hall events calendar.
• Organising and coordinating events.
• Use existing hall information to plan events for the current cohort and gather feedback.
• Complete event audits and reporting.
• Hall Admin support, Star Rez reporting, answer phone calls and reception.
• Promoting and monitoring appropriate behaviour by residents and role modelling.
• Respond to emergency and evacuation situations and escalating to on call manager.
