Job summary

Stats NZ in Wellington is seeking an experienced Finance Business Partner or Senior Management Accountant to join our finance team during a period of organisational change. You will partner with senior leaders to provide proactive financial advice, insightful analysis and practical decision support across portfolios.

This fixed-term role until June 2027 is hands-on, covering budgeting, forecasting, reporting and financial modelling for assigned portfolios, with scope to mentor others and improve

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Commerce or Business.
• CAANZ Chartered Accountant qualification, or equivalent, preferred.
• Proven experience in business-facing senior management accounting roles.
• Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
• Experience in financial modelling and complex financial analysis.
• Experience in government or public sector is advantageous.
• Experience mentoring or leading a team.
• Knowledge of, or experience using, Oracle would be advantageous.
• An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and a willingness to learn and grow in Te Ao Māori.

Responsibilities

• Build trusted relationships with senior leaders and clarify priorities.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, reporting and planning for portfolios.
• Provide analysis on performance, risks, opportunities and actions.
• Perform financial modelling and costing for initiatives and business cases.
• Monitor portfolio performance and keep leaders within budget.
• Support month-end reporting, journals and system updates.
• Improve financial processes and strengthen financial capability.
