Job summary

Statistics New Zealand is seeking an experienced Finance Business Partner or Senior Management Accountant to join our collaborative finance team in Wellington on a fixed-term basis until mid‑2027.

Reporting to the Deputy CFO, you will partner with senior leaders to provide proactive financial advice, budgeting, forecasting, and strategic analysis across portfolios, helping steer decisions and strengthen financial capability.

Qualifications

• Experience in business-facing senior management accounting roles in large organisations.
• Strong communication and presentation skills to inform senior leaders clearly.
• Knowledge of Oracle and financial systems is advantageous.
• Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and ability to learn Te Ao Māori.

Responsibilities

• Lead budgeting, forecasting, reporting and financial planning for assigned portfolios.
• Provide proactive financial analysis and decision support to senior leaders.
• Develop financial models, options analyses and costings for strategic initiatives.
• Support month-end close, journals, and system updates.
• Improve financial processes and strengthen financial capability across the organisation.
