Job summary

Downer Group is seeking Class 4/5 Driver Operators to join our Pavements and Chip Sealing teams in Whanganui, NZ. You will operate truck & trailer units or chip spreaders, transport materials, and support sealing and paving works across diverse projects.

Roles require focus on safety, reliability, and teamwork in active construction environments, with overtime during peak periods and a commitment to high-quality outcomes for communities.

Qualifications

• Full Class 4 or Class 5 licence (essential).
• Experience operating truck & trailer units and/or chip sealing machinery.
• WTR endorsements (preferred but not essential).
• Strong awareness of health & safety practices on active work sites.

Responsibilities

• Transport materials and plant to site.
• Operate specialist equipment on-site.
• Support sealing and paving operations.
• Ensure safety and quality on active worksites.

Downer is proud to be delivering key pavement and chip sealing projects across Whanganui, with our South division known for high-quality work nationwide.

We are looking for Class 4 and Class 5 Driver Operators to join our Pavements and Chip Sealing teams. Whether you’re experienced in truck & trailer (Class 5) or chip spreader/sealing operations (Class 4), we have opportunities for you.

These roles are critical in supporting sealing and paving operations - from transporting materials and plant to operating specialist equipment on-site.

You’ll be part of a tight-knit crew working across a variety of construction, renewal, and maintenance projects, helping deliver safe, high-quality outcomes for our communities.

You will be a reliable, safety-focused operator who takes pride in your work. You’ll also bring:

• Full Class 4 or Class 5 licence (essential)
• Experience operating truck & trailer units and/or chip sealing machinery
• WTR endorsements (preferred but not essential)
• Strong awareness of health & safety practices in active work sites
• Good spatial awareness and confidence operating in tight environments
• A positive attitude and willingness to support the wider crew
• Reliability, strong work ethic, and pride in delivering quality work
• Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors
