Job summary

Omokoroa School is seeking a part-time specialist teacher with experience in special education for ORS High or Very High Needs. The fixed-term 0.6 FTE position runs Terms 1–4, 2027, starting 28/01/2027 and ending 28/01/2028, with a focus on individualised programmes and collaborative support for learners.

You will hold NZ Teacher Registration, work closely with Learning Assistants, families, and external services, and document progress to drive student outcomes.

Qualifications

• Hold current New Zealand Teacher Registration.
• Experience with ORS High or Very High Needs students.
• Prepare and organise a daily programme tailored to the child's IEP.
• Guide and direct Learning Assistants working with the student.
• Keep detailed progress records and report outcomes.
• Maintain warm, open communication with parents and whānau.
• Liaise with external services confidently and professionally.
• Sound pedagogical background in functional skills teaching and behaviour management.

Responsibilities

• Implement a daily, student-centred programme aligned to IEP goals.
• Collaborate with colleagues to support learning and inclusion.
• Monitor progress and adjust strategies to meet needs.
• Record and report outcomes to families and senior staff.
• Support Learning Assistants in delivering targeted supports and activities.

We are seeking a part-time specialist teacher with experience in special education for students with ORS High or Very High Needs. This is a fixed-term 0.6 part-time position for Terms 1-4, 2027.

The ideal candidate will:

• hold current New Zealand Teacher Registration
• have recent success with students with ORS High or Very High Needs, and a deep understanding of students with a range of special needs
• prepare and organise a daily programme specifically catered to the child's IEP, while using initiative and flexibility throughout the planned time
• guide and direct Learning Assistants working alongside the student
• keep detailed records of progress and outcomes and report back regularly
• maintain warm, open, and regular communication with parents and whānau
• be able to liaise with a range of external services and agencies confidently and professionally
• have a sound pedagogical background in functional skills teaching as well as behaviour management
• be friendly, adaptable, empathetic, resilient, and willing to further develop specialist skills in this area of teaching.
