Job summary

Kings High School Dunedin is seeking a committed specialist literacy teacher to deliver targeted literacy support with a two-hour weekly contact time. The role totals five hours per week, including planning, assessment and reporting, and runs as a fixed-term contract funded to September 2027.

The successful applicant will have a strong evidence-based literacy background, with a good understanding of Te ao Māori and Te reo Māori being advantageous.

Qualifications

We seek a committed and engaging specialist literacy teacher to join our motivated staff. The successful applicant will deliver targeted, high-impact literacy support, working with a student for two hours of contact time per week, ideally scheduled from 3pm to 4pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays during term time. The total position is 5 hours per week, allowing dedicated time for planning, assessment, and reporting. This fixed-term role is funded and running through to September 2027.

Suitably qualified applicants will have a strong background in evidence-based literacy instruction and a passion for helping students build confidence and skill. A good understanding of cultural responsiveness, alongside knowledge of or skills in Te ao Māori and Te reo Māori, is highly advantageous. An eagerness to enable students to achieve their personal best, combined with strong communication skills and high expectations for student progress, is essential.

The reason for your employment being of a fixed-term position is that the current funding is running through to September 2027.

The preferred start is week 1 of term 4, Monday 19October, but this can be negotiated with the successful applicant.
