Job summary

Stop is seeking a PD Specialist Clinician for Children's Services in New Zealand to provide expert assessments and evidence-based interventions for tamariki. The role involves working with whānau, schools and multidisciplinary teams to support safe, nurturing environments.

You will bring registration and a qualification in psychology, counselling or social work, a trauma-informed approach, and strong commitment to cultural responsiveness and child protection.

Qualifications

  • Recognised qualification in psychology, counselling, social work, or related mental health discipline with current registration.
  • Experience or strong interest with tamariki showing harmful or concerning sexual behaviours, ideally trauma-informed.
  • Solid understanding of child protection, safeguarding and risk assessment.
  • Ability to balance therapeutic engagement with accountability and safety.
  • Strong skills in working with whānau and building culturally responsive relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake comprehensive, child-centred assessments considering safety and wellbeing.
  • Develop and deliver tailored, evidence-based interventions for tamariki with harmful behaviours.
  • Collaborate with whānau, caregivers, schools, and other professionals to support safe environments.
  • Promote accountability, safety, and positive behaviour change while upholding dignity.
  • Contribute to safety planning, risk management, and maintai n accurate client records.

What you'll do
  • Undertake comprehensive, child-centred assessments that consider safety, wellbeing, and the underlying drivers of behaviour
  • Develop and deliver tailored, evidence-based interventions for tamariki who have engaged in harmful or concerning sexual behaviour
  • Work closely with whānau, caregivers, schools, and other professionals to support safe, consistent, and nurturing environments
  • Promote accountability, safety, and positive behaviour change while upholding the mana and dignity of each child
  • Contribute to safety planning and risk management alongside multidisciplinary partners
  • Maintain accurate client records and actively participate in reflective clinical review processes

What you bring
  • A recognised qualification in psychology, counselling, social work, or a related mental health discipline, with current professional registration (e.g. NZ Psychologists Board, NZAC, SWRB)
  • Experience (or a strong interest) in working with tamariki who display harmful or concerning sexual behaviours, ideally within a trauma-informed framework
  • Sound understanding of child protection, safeguarding, and risk assessment
  • Ability to balance therapeutic engagement with accountability and safety
  • Strong skills in working with whānau and building collaborative, culturally responsive relationships
