Job summary

Counselling Services Centre in Counties Manukau is seeking an experienced counsellor to provide trauma-informed counselling to tamariki and rangatahi, with involvement of their whānau when appropriate, within a dedicated multi-disciplinary team. The role is full-time (40 hours), fixed term for 12 months, Monday–Friday, and requires NZCA or NZCCA membership; ACC registration is desirable.

A driver’s licence and strong computer literacy are also expected as you support clients across the healing

  • Police vetting with a clean record and a full driver’s licence are required

  • Support clients during crisis and in longer-term counselling
  • Facilitate Regen8 programme one day a week during school terms

Are you a Counsellor who copes calmly and compassionately with diverse situations? Based in Counties Manukau, Counselling Services Centre is a not-for-profit organisation that has been operating for 40 years, providing crucial support to those affected by sexual violence, family harm or other trauma. We are seeking an experienced and qualified Counsellor with knowledge of the complex dynamics of sexual harm and family harm, and ideally with experience in crisis intervention.

In addition to membership of NZCA or NZCCA, ACC Registration is desirable, or a willingness to work towards this to enable you to support clients with ACC Sensitive Claims on their healing journey.

The role primarily involves providing counselling support to tamariki and rangatahi, while also working with their whānau where appropriate. The role carries a balance of supporting clients during their time of crisis and those needing longer term counselling. It sits within a dedicated multi-disciplinary team, providing culturally sensitive support underpinned by Te Tiriti o Waitangi in the Counties Manukau area.

Clients are supported with manaakitanga and respect during their time of trauma and provided with vital counselling in the following weeks. Counsellors require a high level of adaptability, also working longer term with clients experiencing sexual harm, family harm or other issues such as grief, loss and anxiety. In addition to your client caseload (4-5 client sessions per day), during school terms one day a week may be worked facilitating Regen8, CSC’s programme supporting and empowering rangitahi, building their resilience and strengthening their relationships with their whānau.

Resilience through good self-care practice is essential. To be successful in this role you will have the ability to work inclusively with a diverse range of ages, cultures, values and communities.

A high level of computer literacy including use of client databases and appointment management/organisation skills is also required.

This is a full-time role(40 hours), fixed term (12 months), Monday – Friday.
