Job summary

Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora - Taranaki is seeking a Psychologist to join the Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) in New Plymouth. The role focuses on neurodevelopmental assessments for tamariki and rangatahi, including autism, ADHD and intellectual disability, supporting families and the wider team.

You will work within an integrated care model, with opportunities for professional development and close collaboration with paediatric teams.

Qualifications

• Current Practising Certificate is required.
• Based in New Plymouth with travel to South Taranaki as required.
• Experience in neurodevelopmental assessment.
• Experience within CAMHS is preferred.
• Understanding and application of Treaty of Waitangi principles.

Responsibilities

• Conduct neurodevelopmental assessments for tamariki and rangatahi (e.g., autism, ADHD, intellectual disability).
• Support tamariki, rangatahi and their whānau through assessment results and care planning.
• Work within an integrated model of care with multidisciplinary teams.
• Travel to South Taranaki as needed to provide services.

Psychologist CAMHS Neurodevelopmental Assessment

0.6 FTE (48 hours per fortnight)

About the Role

Our Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) team is currently looking for a skilled Psychologist, passionate to make a difference in the lives of children and young people experiencing mental health and behavioural difficulties. The role will primarily involve carrying out neurodevelopmental assessments for tamariki and rangatahi e.g. for Autism, ADHD, Intellectual Disability.

This role is vital to the mental health of our children and young people across Taranaki as you will be supporting them through their journey and helping their whānau and others in the community understand their strengths and needs.

This role will be working within our integrated model of care. There will be opportunities and support for professional development e.g. assessment of FASD if required. Access to the most up to date digital psychometric tests will be provided.

About the Team/Service/ Location

The team works with children and young people 4-18 years of age and has close links with the child development team, paediatricians and Non-Government Organisations.

About you

We are looking for:

• Psychologist with current Practicing Certificate based in New Plymouth with travel to South Taranaki as required.
• Passion for Mental Health & Addictions; exceptional interpersonal & communication skills.
• Experience and confidence in neurodevelopmental assessment
• Experience within specialist Child & Adolescent Mental Healthpreferred
• Flexibility to work autonomously as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team
• Understanding and application of the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi, with a culturally safe and appropriate approach to practice
