Job summary

Stop is seeking a registered psychologist to work with adults presenting with complex clinical needs in Aotearoa. The role focuses on comprehensive assessments, risk formulation, and delivering evidence-based interventions, including whānau-inclusive approaches.

You will collaborate across agencies, manage high-risk cases and maintain detailed records while contributing to governance and supervision. A rewarding opportunity in a specialist area of practice.

Qualifications

• Qualified psychologist with NZ registration.
• Experience working with adults in clinical settings with complex presentations.
• Interest in harmful sexual behaviours and willingness to develop specialist skills.
• Experience delivering evidence-based therapeutic interventions.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive clinical assessments, including risk assessment and formulation, and develop tailored intervention plans.
• Deliver evidence-based therapeutic interventions, including individual and whānau-inclusive therapy.
• Collaborate with clients, whānau and external professionals for a coordinated, multi‑agency approach.
• Manage complex and high-risk clinical presentations with ongoing risk monitoring and safety planning.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and engage in supervision, peer review and clinical governance processes.

Are you a registered psychologist with experience working with adults who present with complex clinical needs?

We welcome applications from psychologists with experience in areas such as mental health, trauma, family violence, addictions, forensic, correctional, or other complex clinical settings. Experience working with harmful sexual behaviours is advantageous but not essential – we are looking for clinicians with strong core skills, professional curiosity, and the ability to learn and grow within a specialist area of practice.

What you'll do:

• Conduct comprehensive clinical assessments, including risk assessment and formulation, and develop tailored intervention plans
• Deliver evidence-based therapeutic interventions, including individual and (where appropriate) whānau-inclusive therapy
• Work collaboratively with clients, whānau, and external professionals to support a coordinated, multi-agency approach
• Manage complex and high-risk clinical presentations, including ongoing risk monitoring and safety planning
• Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation and actively participate in supervision, peer review, and clinical governance processes

What you bring:

• A recognised qualification in psychology and current professional registration in New Zealand (e.g. NZ Psychologists Board)
• Demonstrated experience working with adults in a clinical setting, including complex presentations such as trauma, mental health challenges, addictions, family violence, forensic or other high needs populations.
• An interest in developing expertise in the assessment and treatment of harmful sexual behaviours, with the capacity and willingness to learn within a specialist area of practice.
• Experience delivering evidence-based therapeutic interventions in individual and/or group settings.
• Strong understanding of risk assessment, risk management, safeguarding, and professional boundaries
• Well-developed clinical formulation and therapeutic intervention skills
• Cultural competence, including the ability to engage effectively with diverse communities and work in culturally responsive ways
