Job description

Software Consultant - Technical Analysis - Financial Crime

We deliver on our purpose by providing simple, meaningful ways to help Kiwis improve their financial wellbeing, today and tomorrow. We do this by championing innovation and fresh thinking, opening new opportunities for more people to stay one step ahead.

If you’ve always wanted to apply your skills to a large-scale Kiwi success story, this could be your opportunity. We’re looking for a Software Consultant to join our Financial Crime team.

We are seeking a highly experienced and proactive Technical Analyst to join our team delivering world class Financial Crime Technology solutions. The ideal candidate will have over a decade of proven expertise in technical and business analysis across complex systems, with the ability to work collaboratively across technical and business teams. You will play a key role in uncovering and articulating technical needs, driving gap analysis, and documenting technical solutions that help prevent financial crime and support compliance with regulatory obligations.

This role demands someone who is confident in challenging assumptions, contributing to solutioning conversations, and advocating for quality and fit-for-purpose outcomes. You’ll bring a deep understanding of systems architecture, integration patterns, and data flows - and thrive in dynamic, delivery-focused environments.

  • Conduct in-depth technical analysis of Financial Crime systems, APIs, data flows, and infrastructure components.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable documentation for diverse stakeholders.
  • Turn regulatory and compliance needs into structured, testable requirements. Validate technical solutions to ensure they align with compliance rules and operational workflows.
  • Collaborate with architects, developers, testers, and business subject matter experts to elicit and validate requirements.
  • Lead workshops and technical discussions to align understanding across teams.
  • Produce and maintain artefacts such as solution outlines, interface specifications, sequence diagrams, data mappings, and process models.
  • Drive consistency and rigour in documentation, versioning, traceability, and sign-off processes.
  • Support quality assurance through test planning, data validation, and scenario walkthroughs.
  • Lead design governance, ensuring designs meet high standards of scalability, reliability, and robustness.
  • Mentor team members and foster a learning environment that encourages knowledge-sharing and professional growth.
  • Act as a subject matter expert within your domain, sharing insights on current trends, technologies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute actively to the Technical Analysis chapter and help shape its direction.
  • At least 10 years’ experience as a Technical Analyst, including at least five years in banking or financial services.
  • Strong technical acumen, with a deep understanding of software architecture, APIs, data structures, microservices, cloud technologies, and integration models.
  • Proficiency with technical documentation tools such as Confluence, Visio, Enterprise Architect, or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of SQL or scripting for data investigations and validation.
  • Experience with agile delivery methodologies, such as Scrum or Kanban, and DevOps environments.
  • Ability to challenge and validate technical assumptions constructively and professionally.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills and confidence communicating with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead analysis streams, set direction, and mentor others.
  • Strong problem-solving and conceptual-thinking skills.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with clarity, structure, and precision.
  • Proven experience working across multiple platforms, integrations, data pipelines, or enterprise-scale transformations.
