Job description

Jora New Zealand will close on 9th September 2026. Thank you for being with us, we are cheering you on as you continue your career journey.

Rwr Construction – Wellington, North Island

Good Site Managers know when to plan, when to push, and when to get out on site and sort the thing that’s holding everyone up. That’s the balance this role needs.

We’re working with a Wellington construction business delivering commercial projects where the expectation is straightforward: take ownership of the site, keep the programme moving, communicate well, and deal with issues before they become bigger ones.

The role will suit someone who is commercially experienced, practical in their approach, and comfortable working with a bit of autonomy.

The role

You’ll take responsibility for the day-to-day running of commercial construction sites and work closely with the wider project team to keep programme, quality and delivery on track.

That includes:

  • coordinating trades and site activity
  • managing short-term programmes and sequencing
  • staying on top of drawings, RFIs and site issues
  • keeping quality and safety where they need to be
  • communicating with clients, consultants and project teams
  • maintaining the documentation that keeps the job under control
  • identifying issues early and working through them
  • carrying the site through to completion and handover

Good Site Managers know when to plan, when to push, and when to get out on site and sort the thing that’s holding everyone up. That’s the balance this role needs.

What they’re looking for

You’ll need solid commercial construction experience and enough exposure to larger, structured projects that client meetings, programmes and multiple work fronts feel normal.

Tier 2 or Tier 1 experience would be useful, but it doesn’t need to define your whole career. A trade background is helpful, but the bigger thing is balance.

They don’t want someone who can only do the practical side, and they don’t want someone who only manages from behind a screen. You need to be able to do both.

  • Practical enough to understand what’s happening on site.
  • Organised enough to stay ahead of programme.
  • Confident enough to deal with clients.
  • And proactive enough to keep things moving when the answer isn’t immediately obvious.

The environment

The business is growing, the work is varied, and the way they operate is relatively unbureaucratic. People who do well are generally positive, accountable and low ego. You’ll have support around you, but you’ll also be trusted to get on with the job.

If you like a highly prescribed environment with a process for everything, this probably won’t be the right fit. If you like being given responsibility, working things out, and being part of a team that gets stuck in, it could be a very good one.

Interested? We’re less interested in a polished CV than we are in understanding what you’ve actually run. If you’ve delivered commercial sites, managed programme and trades, dealt directly with clients, and can talk honestly about the problems you’ve had to solve along the way, we’d be keen to hear from you.
