Job summary

Presbyterian Support Northern is seeking an experienced Lifeline Shift Supervisor for the Lifeline 24/7 helpline. The role is 32 hours per week on a rostered basis, including evenings and weekends, guiding frontline staff and volunteers to deliver safe, compassionate support.

You will lead on shift, ensure smooth operations, and support staff through complex situations while prioritising quality, wellbeing and risk management.

Qualifications

• Experience in helpline, counselling, mental health or related services.
• Current registration with a professional body is essential.
• Ability to lead, guide, and motivate staff and volunteers.

Lifeline is looking for an experienced and compassionate Lifeline Shift Supervisor to join our team, working 32 hours per week on a rostered basis, including evenings and weekends. This is a rewarding opportunity to play a key leadership role within Lifeline's 24/7 helpline service, supporting our frontline staff and volunteers to provide safe, responsive and compassionate support to people reaching out when they need it most.

As Shift Supervisor, you will provide visible, supportive leadership on shift, ensuring our service operates smoothly and that staff and volunteers have the guidance, oversight and support they need to manage complex and sometimes challenging situations.

You will contribute to a positive and safe practice environment, balancing the immediate operational needs of the service with a strong focus on quality, wellbeing, risk management and excellent client outcomes.

We are looking for someone who brings professional expertise, sound judgement and a genuine commitment to supporting others.

• Experience working within a helpline, counselling, mental health, social services or related environment
• A relevant qualification in Counselling, Psychology, Social Work or another related health profession
• Current professional registration with an appropriate professional body – essential
• Demonstrated leadership capability, with the ability to guide, support and motivate staff and volunteers
• The confidence to provide calm and considered leadership in complex or high-risk situations
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and maintain professional relationships
• The ability to balance people, practice and operational priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Experience working within a 24/7 service or rostered environment would be advantageous
• A strong commitment to safe, person-centred and culturally responsive practice, aligned with Lifeline's values.
