Job summary

Presbyterian Support Northern seeks a Practice Lead to strengthen the quality, safety and effectiveness of Lifeline services. You will provide clinical leadership and guidance to staff and volunteers in high-risk crisis responses, while championing evidence-informed practice and trauma-informed approaches.

You will lead supervision, coaching, and quality improvements, ensuring policies are current and embedded in day-to-day practice.

Qualifications

• Qualified clinician with professional registration.
• Significant experience in mental health and crisis intervention.
• Experience providing clinical leadership and supervision.
• Ability to work with high-risk situations and guide teams.
• Commitment to evidence-informed, trauma-informed, and person-centred practice.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical leadership across Lifeline, guiding staff and volunteers in complex, high-risk situations.
• Provide supervision and coaching to the Senior Shift Supervisor and volunteer teams.
• Lead quality improvement and service development initiatives across Lifeline.
• Support a culture of reflective practice, accountability and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with leaders to strengthen how Lifeline supports people and communities.

Lifeline is looking for an experienced Practice Lead to strengthen the quality, safety and effectiveness of our services. This is more than a clinical support role – it’s an opportunity to lead practice, build capability and drive meaningful improvements across a service that people turn to when they need help most. Working 32 hours per week, you’ll bring your mental health and crisis expertise to a role where your judgement, leadership and ideas can have a genuine impact. What You’ll Be Doing You’ll provide practice and clinical leadership across Lifeline, helping our staff and volunteers feel confident and supported when responding to complex and often high-risk situations. You will:

• Champion evidence-informed practice across mental health, crisis intervention, suicide prevention and risk management.
• Provide guidance and support around complex presentations, high-risk situations, case management and frequent callers.
• Ensure clinical policies, procedures and practice standards are current, relevant and embedded in day-to-day practice.
• Coach, mentor and develop staff and volunteers, strengthening their capability and confidence.
• Provide supervision and practice support to the Senior Shift Supervisor, Warmline team and Volunteer team.
• Lead and contribute to quality improvement and service development initiatives.
• Encourage a culture of reflective practice, learning, accountability and continuous improvement.
• Work collaboratively with leaders and teams to identify opportunities to strengthen the way Lifeline supports people and communities.

Ngā pūkenga kei a koe | Your Skills and Experience We’re looking for someone who combines strong clinical expertise with confident leadership and sound professional judgement. You’ll ideally have:

• A recognised clinical qualification and relevant professional registration.
• Significant experience in mental health, crisis intervention, suicide prevention and risk assessment/management.
• Experience providing clinical leadership, supervision, coaching or practice guidance.
• Confidence working with complex and high-risk situations and supporting others to manage risk safely.
• A strong understanding of evidence-informed, trauma-informed and person-centred practice.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to build trusted relationships across different teams and professional groups.
• A genuine commitment to learning, quality improvement and strengthening practice.
