Job summary

Pillars Ka Pou Whakahou in Auckland is seeking a skilled Sheet Metal Trade Worker to join the team. You will perform light fabrication, TIG/MIG welding, and operate related machinery on a variety of commercial and industrial projects.

You will read technical drawings, select materials, cut, form, and weld sheet metal to high standards, with weekly pay and a guaranteed 30-60 hours per week. A reliable, detail-oriented attitude and safety focus are essential.

Qualifications

• Study blueprints and specs to determine material and equipment needs.
• Mark stock and check sizes against specifications.
• Select metal stock and measure to specs.
• Cut stock with hand and power tools according to guidelines.
• Form and bend metal using folding machines and rollers.
• Weld, rivet, solder, braze components into assemblies.
• Finish products by polishing and cleaning.
• Repair damaged sheet metal components.
• Assist in fabrication, on-site assembly and installation.
• May produce aircraft sheet metal components requiring advanced drawing skills.

Responsibilities

• Study blueprints, drawings and specs to determine job, material and equipment requirements.
• Select metal stock (stainless steel, galvanized iron, mild steel, aluminium, copper) and check sizes against specifications.
• Mark out stock using templates, gauges and locating points.
• Cut stock along guidelines using hand and power shears, guillotines and drills.
• Form stock using folding machines, rollers and presses.
• Weld, rivet, solder, braze or join components into assemblies.
• Finish products by polishing, filing and cleaning assembled parts.
• Repair damaged sheet metal products.
• May specialise in fabrication or on-site assembly and installation.
• May produce aircraft sheet metal components requiring advanced drawing and calculating skills.
