Job summary

Franklin Smith Limited is seeking multiple experienced sheet metal workers and welders for construction projects across New Zealand. You will mark out, shape, weld and fabricate sheet metal and related materials, with a focus on quality and safety.

A strong reference and good attitude are essential. Roles are permanent, minimum 30 hours per week, travel across NZ to sites including Auckland, Wellington and others.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years full-time sheet metal experience on commercial or civil projects.
• Ability to pass police check and drug test.
• NZ citizen or resident required.

Responsibilities

• Cut, shape, bend and join sheet metal and other materials.
• Weld metal components and inspect welds for quality.
• Prepare diagrams, review blueprints and measure materials.
• Travel to project sites across New Zealand and work across multiple locations.

Looking for multiple experienced Welders who have a good attitude towards work and great references. You will be completing various welding and fabricating construction related material, pipe, structural steel erection, etc. The successful candidate will have at least three years of relevant full-time work experience.

About you:

The ideal candidate must be able to:

• Cutting marked-out metal sections and shapes using hand tools, flame cutting torches and metal cutting machines.
• Shaping and bending metal sections and pipes using hand and machine tools, and by heating and hammering.
• Aligning parts to be joined using hand tools and measuring instruments.
• Examining welds for width of bead, penetration and precision.
• Finishing products by cleaning, polishing, filing and bathing in acidic solutions.
• Cleaning and smoothing welds by filing, chiseling and grinding

• Ensure all activities are conducted safely and in compliance with Franklin Smith policies and relevant legislation.
• Other duties as reasonably required within the capability of the employee’s role may also be required from time to time.

About the role:

• Hourly wage ranging from $30.00 - $35.00
• Permanent role - Monday to Friday, with extra shifts available on weekends
• We have opportunities across various locations in New Zealand. As part of your employment, you may be required to travel to a different region within New Zealand for different projects, including Auckland, Manawatū-Whanganui, Marlborough, Waikato, Wellington, Otago, Nelson, Hawke’s Bay, Taranaki, Northland, West Coast, Bay of Plenty, Canterbury, Gisborne, Southland.

• assemble products or production equipment
• weld metal components
• plan layout of construction, installation, or repairs
• smooth surfaces with abrasive materials or tools
• fabricate parts or components
• select construction materials
• Ensure all activities are conducted safely and in compliance with Franklin Smith policies and relevant legislation.
