Placements24 is partnering with a prominent national engineering firm to recruit a Senior Structural Bridge Engineer. The role is fully remote within South Africa, design and detail bridge structures, and support rehabilitation and new construction projects with a focus on safety and code compliance.

Requirements include a Master’s in Structural Engineering, 8+ years in bridge work, Pr Eng is desirable, and proficiency with MIDAS Civil, LUSAS Bridge, SAP2000.

Responsibilities

• Lead the structural design of bridges, including concrete, steel, and composite.

About the Role Our client, a prominent national engineering firm with a focus on transportation infrastructure, is seeking an experienced Senior Structural Bridge Engineer to join their team on a fully remote basis. While the company has a strong presence in the **Eastern Cape**, this position offers the flexibility to work from any location within South Africa. You will be instrumental in the design, analysis, and detailing of bridge structures, including new construction and rehabilitation projects. This role demands a deep understanding of bridge engineering principles, advanced analysis techniques, and a commitment to producing safe, efficient, and durable designs. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the structural design of bridges, including concrete, steel, and composite structures.
• Perform complex structural analysis using specialized bridge engineering software.
• Prepare detailed design calculations, drawings, and specifications for bridge construction and rehabilitation.
• Ensure designs comply with all relevant codes and standards, including the South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL) requirements.
• Collaborate virtually with project managers, designers, and other engineering disciplines.
• Review shop drawings and respond to contractor queries during the construction phase.
• Mentor junior bridge engineers and provide technical leadership.
• Stay abreast of advancements in bridge engineering materials, technologies, and design methodologies.
• Contribute to technical proposals and support business development efforts.
• Ensure the structural integrity and safety of all designed bridge elements.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Structural Engineering or a related field.
• A minimum of 8 years of experience specifically in structural bridge engineering.
• Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) registration with ECSA is highly desirable.
• Expertise in bridge design software such as MIDAS Civil, LUSAS Bridge, SAP2000, or similar.
• In-depth knowledge of bridge design codes (e.g., AASHTO, Eurocodes, SANS).
• Experience with various bridge types (e.g., beam, arch, suspension, cable-stayed).
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Strong remote communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple project priorities effectively.
