Job summary

PowerShield Ltd. in Auckland, North Island, seeks a Senior Software Tester to own testing across cloud, Windows, and embedded software.

You will shape testable requirements with the team and help ensure release readiness in a hybrid onsite role based at our Auckland office with the option to work from home up to two days per week. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of testing experience, strong automation skills in C# and Python, plus expertise in REST APIs, security testing, and Jira for defect

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of software testing experience with ownership of test planning and release testing.
  • Strong experience with automated and manual testing including exploratory, regression, and integration testing.
  • Programming skills in C# and/or Python with experience building automated test suites.
  • Experience testing REST APIs and web service integrations.
  • Experience gathering requirements and writing user stories, acceptance criteria, and test scenarios.
  • Ability to assess quality and security risks and provide release-readiness recommendations.
  • Windows administration and Linux knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Own the testing strategy and quality assurance activities across PowerShield's cloud, Windows, embedded software, and API-based products.
  • Plan, coordinate, and sign off testing activities for each software release, ensuring releases meet quality standards.
  • Design, develop, and maintain automated tests, including testing of REST APIs and integrations.
  • Perform exploratory, regression, integration, end-to-end, and security-focused testing across products and platforms.
  • Identify vulnerabilities, security failures, and unauthorised access risks.
  • Translate feature ideas into clear requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and test scenarios.
  • Identify quality risks early and provide recommendations to improve reliability, usability, security, and maintainability.
  • Drive continuous improvement of test processes, tools, automation frameworks, and AI-assisted testing practices.

As a Senior Software Tester, you will test PowerShield's software across cloud, Windows, and embedded applications. You will also work closely with the team to shape new features into clear, testable requirements. This is an onsite role based in our Auckland office, with the flexibility to work from home up to two days per week.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Own the testing strategy and quality assurance activities across PowerShield's cloud, Windows, embedded software, and API‑based products.
  • Plan, coordinate, and sign off testing activities for each software release, ensuring releases meet agreed quality standards.
  • Design, develop, and maintain automated tests, including automated testing of REST APIs and integrations.
  • Perform exploratory, regression, integration, end‑to‑end, and security‑focused testing across multiple products and platforms.
  • Identify vulnerabilities, security failures, and unauthorised access risks that could impact customer systems or data.
  • Work closely with Software Engineers and Product stakeholders to translate feature ideas into clear requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and test scenarios.
  • Identify quality risks early and provide recommendations to improve product reliability, usability, security, and maintainability.
  • Drive continuous improvement of test processes, tools, automation frameworks, and AI‑assisted testing practices.
Skills, Experience, and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of software testing experience, including ownership of test planning and release testing activities.
  • Strong experience with both automated and manual testing, including exploratory, regression, integration, and system testing.
  • Programming skills in C# and/or Python, with experience developing and maintaining automated test suites.
  • Experience testing and validating REST APIs and web service integrations.
  • Experience gathering requirements and writing user stories, acceptance criteria, and test scenarios.
  • Ability to assess quality and security risks and make informed release‑readiness recommendations.
  • Basic Windows administration and Linux knowledge.
  • Experience using task and defect management systems such as Jira.
  • Experience using AI tools to generate, review, and improve automated tests.
  • Experience testing cloud‑connected applications and distributed systems.
  • Experience with API testing and test automation frameworks.
  • Knowledge of OWASP Secure Coding Practices and common web application security risks.
  • Ability to work from limited formal requirements and collaborate with the team to clarify software behaviour and expected outcomes.
  • A basic understanding of communications interfaces, protocols, and networking.
