Job summary

Westpac New Zealand is seeking a Senior Engineer to lead backend delivery for payments experiences. You will design, build, and evolve mobile and web front-ends alongside the payments processing stack, guiding architecture decisions and mentoring engineers.

You will work in a cross-functional squad, applying best practices in design, coding, performance, and security while collaborating with product and platform partners to deliver scalable, customer-centric capabilities.

Qualifications

• At least 5+ years of professional engineering experience in backend development.
• Proficient in Java and Spring Boot.
• Experience with DevOps, CI/CD, and deployment automation.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain payments-related backend services.
• Troubleshoot issues and provide after-hours support when required.
• Uphold coding standards, performance, and security practices.
• Create and maintain SDLC documentation for transparency.
• Implement changes aligned with evolving business needs.
• Analyse recurring issues and lead continuous improvement.
• Maintain support procedures to ensure resilience and minimal downtime.
• Ensure compliance with governance standards.
