Job summary

Westpac New Zealand is transforming its mobile experience for customers. This role is responsible for end-to-end delivery of production mobile solutions—from shaping the technical approach through testing, release and operational support—while championing code quality, security and reducing technical debt.

You will design, develop, test, and maintain applications, troubleshoot issues, provide technical guidance to junior developers, and contribute to SDLC documentation.

Qualifications

• At least 5+ years of professional engineering experience in iOS or Android mobile app development.
• Experience in DevOps such as CI/CD pipelines, containerisation and deployment automation.
• Proficient in unit testing, code reviews, and debugging.
• Ability to break down complex problems and deliver practical solutions.
• Strong understanding of software architecture and design principles.
• Integrates AI effectively into engineering workflows to improve quality and efficiency, demonstrates strong judgement on appropriate use, and coaches others on responsible AI practices.

Responsibilities

• End-to-end delivery of production mobile solutions, from design to testing and release.
• Design, develop, test, and maintain mobile apps and integrations.
• Troubleshoot issues and provide after-hours support as needed.
• Champion best practices for design, security, performance, and code quality.
• Collaborate with project teams to meet business and technical requirements.
• Create documentation across the SDLC and mentor junior developers.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system performance and reliability.
• Support release and deployment processes with governance-compliant documentation.
