Job summary

Westpac New Zealand Ltd is seeking a Senior Engineer to lead the delivery of payment-related experiences across mobile and web front-ends and the processing layer. You will provide technical leadership, drive best practices, and mentor engineers while collaborating with product and platform partners to ensure scalable, resilient payments capabilities.

You will design, build, test, and maintain applications and integrations, troubleshoot issues, and contribute to governance, security, and SDLC

Qualifications

• At least 5+ years of professional engineering experience in Backend development in Java and Springboot.
• Experience with DevOps such as CI/CD pipelines, containerisation and deployment automation.
• Proficient in unit testing, code reviews, and debugging.
• Ability to break down complex problems and deliver practical solutions.
• Strong understanding of software architecture and design principles.
• Integrates AI into engineering workflows responsibly.

• Analyse recurring issues and lead continuous improvement initiatives
• Maintain and refine support procedures to ensure resilience and minimise downtime

As part of WNZL’s digital transformation, you will play a senior role in delivering high-quality payments experiences for our customers. Working within a cross-functional squad, you will design, build, and evolve solutions across mobile, and web front-ends, as well as the experience and capability layers of payments processing. As a Senior Engineer, you will provide technical leadership, drive engineering best practices, and contribute to solution design and architectural decisions. You will mentor other engineers, collaborate closely with product and platform partners, and ensure the delivery of scalable, resilient, and customer-centric payments capabilities.
