What’s the role about?
We’re looking for a Senior Software Developer to join our New Zealand development team and play a key role in a significant technology transformation.
This role is a 12-month fixed term contract opportunity, based in our central Auckland offices on a hybrid work basis.
This is a hands-on engineering role where you’ll design, build, test and support production-quality software across modern applications, APIs, integrations and digital capabilities.
What makes this opportunity different is the focus on AI-enabled software delivery . You’ll have the opportunity to use AI technologies practically within development, helping turn emerging capabilities into secure, reliable and maintainable software.
This isn’t a research or data science role. We’re looking for an experienced software engineer who is technically strong, curious about AI and excited by how it can change the way we build software.
Some of your day-to-day responsibilities will look like:
- Design, build, test and support high-quality modern applications, APIs, services and integrations.
- Contribute to the modernisation of technology platforms and development of new digital capabilities.
- Take ownership of solutions from design through to production and ongoing support.
- Apply strong engineering practices across automated testing, code review, CI/CD, observability, security and maintainability.
- Use AI-assisted development tools across coding, testing, review, documentation, deployment and troubleshooting.
- Identify practical opportunities to embed AI into software development and delivery, while maintaining appropriate human oversight and engineering standards.
- Collaborate with developers, business analysts, testers, infrastructure, security teams and technology partners to deliver practical, scalable solutions.
- Share your AI and software engineering knowledge to help uplift capability across the wider development team.
About you
You’re an experienced software engineer who combines strong development fundamentals with genuine curiosity about how AI can improve the way software is built and delivered.
You’ll ideally bring:
- 10+ years’ software development experience, ideally within modern web-based development environments.
- Strong experience with C#/.NET, JavaScript/TypeScript and modern web frameworks.
- Experience building modern applications, REST APIs, integrations and distributed or event-driven systems.
- Strong experience with Azure, SQL and relational databases.
- A track record of designing maintainable, modular and production-ready software, not just delivering individual features.
- Strong engineering practices across automated testing, Git, code reviews and CI/CD.
- Practical experience using AI-assisted development tools across areas such as solution design, coding, testing, documentation, code review and troubleshooting.
- Experience developing secure cloud applications, including authentication, authorisation and appropriate handling of sensitive data.
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively within an established development team.
What will help you stand out
- Experience introducing AI-assisted engineering practices into established development workflows.
- Experience with Azure DevOps, GitHub, event-driven architecture or messaging-based integrations.
- Experience within insurance, financial services or other regulated/customer-facing environments.
- The judgement to know where AI adds value and where traditional engineering approaches are more appropriate.
- An ability to turn ambiguous problems into simple, practical and maintainable solutions.
- A strong understanding of the difference between a prototype and production-ready software.
- Comfortable working in an environment undergoing significant technology change and sharing knowledge with others along the way.
