Job summary

Assurant is seeking a Senior Software Developer to join our New Zealand development team in Auckland on a 12-month fixed-term contract with a hybrid work setup.

You will design, build, test and support production-quality software across modern applications, APIs, integrations and digital capabilities, with a focus on AI-enabled delivery. This hands-on role requires strong engineering fundamentals and curiosity about AI’s impact on software.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software development experience.
• Strong experience with C#/.NET, JavaScript/TypeScript and modern web frameworks.
• Experience building REST APIs, integrations and distributed/event-driven systems.
• Strong experience with Azure, SQL and relational databases.
• Track record of designing maintainable, modular, production-ready software.
• Engineering practices across automated testing, Git, code reviews and CI/CD.
• Practical experience using AI-assisted development tools across design, coding, testing, documentation, review and troubleshooting.
• Experience developing secure cloud applications focusing on authentication/authorization.
• Relevant degree or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test and support high-quality modern applications, APIs, services and integrations.
• Contribute to modernisation of technology platforms and development of new digital capabilities.
• Take ownership of solutions from design through to production and ongoing support.
• Apply strong engineering practices across automated testing, code review, CI/CD, observability, security and maintainability.
• Use AI-assisted development tools across coding, testing, review, documentation, deployment and troubleshooting.
• Identify opportunities to embed AI into software development with appropriate human oversight and standards.
• Collaborate with developers, business analysts, testers, infrastructure, security teams and partners to deliver scalable solutions.
• Share AI and software engineering knowledge to uplift capability across the team.
