Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS/Cybersecurity/IT or related field.
• 5+ years in information security with strong cloud security focus.
• Proven experience securing AWS, Azure, or GCP environments.
• Knowledge of IAM, network security, and data protection.
• Hands-on with security tools: SIEM, vulnerability scanners, endpoint protection.
• Understanding of IaC and security implications.
• Scripting in Python or Bash for security automation.
• Security certifications such as CISSP/CCSP are desirable.

About the Role

Our client, a leading cybersecurity firm specializing in cloud protection, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Security Engineer with a focus on cloud security. This role is instrumental in designing, implementing, and maintaining robust security measures for cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP). You will be responsible for identifying vulnerabilities, developing mitigation strategies, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of cloud security principles, threat landscapes, and security tools. This is a remote-first position, allowing you to contribute your expertise to protect critical infrastructure from anywhere, supporting clients globally, including those based near Queenstown, Eastern Cape.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and manage security controls and solutions for cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Develop and enforce security policies, standards, and procedures for cloud infrastructure.
• Conduct regular security assessments, vulnerability scanning, and penetration testing.
• Monitor security alerts and incidents, and lead response efforts to contain and remediate threats.
• Implement and manage security tools such as SIEM, firewalls, IDS/IPS, and WAFs.
• Ensure cloud infrastructure complies with relevant security frameworks (e.g., ISO 27001, SOC 2, GDPR).
• Collaborate with development and operations teams to integrate security into the CI/CD pipeline (DevSecOps).
• Provide security guidance and training to engineering teams.
• Stay informed about emerging security threats, vulnerabilities, and best practices in cloud security.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in information security, with a strong focus on cloud security.
• Proven experience securing AWS, Azure, or GCP environments.
• In-depth knowledge of cloud security best practices, identity and access management (IAM), network security, and data protection.
• Hands-on experience with security tools such as SIEM solutions, vulnerability scanners, and endpoint protection.
• Understanding of infrastructure as code (IaC) and its security implications.
• Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for security automation.
• Relevant security certifications such as CISSP, CCSP, or cloud provider security certifications are highly desirable.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
