Job summary

HEB Construction in Napier, New Zealand, seeks an experienced Health & Safety Manager to lead safety at the Waikare Gorge Realignment project. You will drive the Health & Safety Management System, ensuring alignment with national strategy, client expectations, and NZ legislation.

This hands-on role partners with operations to embed robust safety practices, protect people, and continually improve safety performance on major civil infrastructure works.

Qualifications

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Health & Safety or related field.
• 5+ years’ infrastructure H&S experience; bridge project exposure preferred.
• Strong hazard and risk management knowledge.
• Excellent communication with field workforce.
• Solid knowledge of H&S legislation and best practices.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and robust documentation.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert safety guidance to site teams and leadership.
• Align work with H&S strategy and regulatory requirements.
• Lead incident investigations and corrective actions.
• Oversee hazard and risk management processes.
• Facilitate workforce engagement, competency, and monitoring.
• Lead audits, inspections, and client reporting support.
• Support emergency planning and readiness activities.
• Communicate safety expectations through forums and briefings.
• Collaborate with management on training and compliance.
