Auckland Council is hiring a Senior Planner to join our Resource Consents Group in Central Auckland or Manukau. This full-time role combines technical excellence with leadership, shaping places where people live, work, and connect.

You will assess consent applications, provide planning advice, and present reports at hearings, while mentoring colleagues and collaborating with diverse stakeholders. Flexibility and a commitment to quality development are essential.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Planning or Resource Management (NZPI preferred).
• Experience in local government, consultancy, or equivalent environment.
• Strong knowledge of the Resource Management Act 1991 and evolving legislative landscape.
• Excellent case management, analytical and decision‑making skills.
• Confident communication with a wide range of stakeholders.
• Experience coaching, mentoring, or supporting colleagues to grow and succeed.
• Full or restricted NZ driver's licence.

Responsabilités

• Assess and process resource consent applications with planning expertise to deliver robust outcomes.
• Provide sound planning advice and recommendations supporting sustainable growth.
• Present reports at Council hearings and act as reporting planner for Auckland Council.
• Pursue opportunities as an expert witness and develop your professional profile.
• Support, mentor, and share knowledge with developing planners.
• Review and decide on resource consents under delegated authority.
• Collaborate with applicants, consultants, mana whenua, technical specialists, and community stakeholders to achieve optimal outcomes.
• Lead responsibilities when required, including acting as 2IC for the Team Leader.
