Job summary

Magnetic Recruitment in Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand, seeks an Intermediate or Senior Quantity Surveyor to own day-to-day commercial aspects of varied projects from $100,000 to $20 million. The role offers up to $150,000 plus a company vehicle, working across commercial, industrial, healthcare, education and community sectors.

Ideal candidates will hold an NZ Diploma in Quantity Surveying or a relevant degree and can manage projects autonomously while mentoring junior QS staff in a supportive team

Qualifications

• NZ Diploma in Quantity Surveying or relevant degree.
• 5+ years post-graduate QS experience.
• NZ commercial building construction experience.
• Knowledge of local timber-framed construction.
• Ability to manage projects autonomously.
• Strong subcontractor procurement, cost reporting and variation experience.
• Good commercial judgement and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Manage project financials from contract award through to final account
• Prepare progress claims, forecasts, cash flows and cost reports
• Procure and manage subcontractor and supplier packages
• Pricing and administering variations
• Monitoring project costs, margins, risks and opportunities
• Working closely with clients, Project Managers and site teams
• Attending site, client and financial review meetings
• Ensuring compliance with contracts and the Construction Contracts Act
• Assisting with tendering and procurement when required

Intermediate/Senior Quantity Surveyor – Hawke’s Bay

Up to $150k + Vehicle | Commercial Construction

Join an established New Zealand commercial construction company delivering varied building projects across Hawke’s Bay.

We’re looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor who can independently manage the day-to-day commercial requirements of their projects. This could suit either a strong Intermediate ready to step up or an established Senior QS.

You’ll take commercial ownership of projects ranging from approximately $100,000 to $20 million, including new builds, refurbishments, extensions and seismic strengthening across the commercial, industrial, healthcare, education and community sectors.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Managing project financials from contract award through to final account
• Preparing progress claims, forecasts, cash flows and cost reports
• Procuring and managing subcontractor and supplier packages
• Pricing and administering variations
• Monitoring project costs, margins, risks and opportunities
• Working closely with clients, Project Managers and site teams
• Attending site, client and financial review meetings
• Ensuring compliance with contracts and the Construction Contracts Act
• Assisting with tendering and procurement when required

At Senior level, you’ll also have the opportunity to support and mentor junior QS team members. You don’t need to be an experienced mentor immediately, but you must be interested in developing this capability.

You’ll ideally bring:

• Around five or more years’ post-graduate QS experience
• New Zealand commercial building construction experience
• An NZ Diploma in Quantity Surveying or relevant degree
• Knowledge of local building methods, including timber-framed construction
• The ability to manage your projects autonomously
• Strong subcontractor procurement, cost reporting and variation experience
• Good commercial judgement and attention to detail
• A practical, accountable and collaborative approach
