Job summary

Datacom is seeking a senior project manager to lead large, complex data centre and infrastructure initiatives in Wellington. You will shape delivery approaches, coordinate resources, and ensure projects meet defined scope, budget and timing while maintaining governance.

You will collaborate with senior stakeholders, technical specialists and vendors, guiding multi‑platform teams through design, development, testing and handover to operations, with strong reporting and financial oversight.

Qualifications

• Experience leading large/complex infrastructure projects.
• Broad understanding of infrastructure technologies and dependencies.
• Strong PM capabilities across scope, time, cost, quality, communications, risk and procurement.
• Proven customer and senior stakeholder management, including third-party vendors.
• Strong financial literacy with cost estimation, forecasting and reporting.
• Bachelor's degree in a related field.
• Certifications such as PRINCE2/PMI/Agile are desirable.

About the role

Sitting within Datacom's Data Centres business, this role leads large and complex data centre and technical infrastructure projects from initiation through to closure. You'll shape the delivery approach, coordinate resources and ensure each project meets agreed quality, scope, budget and timing requirements.

You'll work closely with senior stakeholders, technical specialists, project teams and third-party vendors. Your focus will be on disciplined delivery, clear governance and a smooth transition into business-as-usual support.

What you will do

• Lead large, complex data centre and infrastructure projects through the full project lifecycle.
• Define delivery approaches, plans, schedules, resources and governance to support successful outcomes.
• Manage scope, budget, quality, risks, issues, dependencies and change across concurrent workstreams.
• Build and guide collaborative project teams working in complex, multi-platform technical environments.
• Coordinate design, documentation, development, testing and implementation activities.
• Maintain clear reporting and strong relationships with customers, senior stakeholders and delivery partners.
• Manage project financials, including forecasting, budget tracking, variance analysis and benefits realisation.
• Develop and manage vendor agreements and third-party relationships that support delivery.
• Plan and oversee the handover of completed projects into operational support.

What you will bring

• Proven experience leading large or complex technical infrastructure projects.
• A broad understanding of infrastructure technologies and their dependencies.
• Strong project management capability across scope, time, cost, quality, communications, risk, procurement and integration.
• Proven customer and senior stakeholder management experience, including working with third-party vendors.
• Strong financial literacy, including cost estimation, forecasting, budget tracking and reporting.
• Effective leadership, negotiation, influencing, problem-solving and dispute resolution skills.
• A relevant bachelor's degree in Business, IT, Science, Engineering, Economics or a related discipline.
• Project Management, PRINCE2, PMI or Agile certification is desirable.
