Tataki Auckland Unlimited – Auckland, North Island

  • Work across some of New Zealand's most diverse and iconic arts, cultural, and sporting venues.
  • Join a highly collaborative team that values creativity and innovation and work on unique and exciting projects
  • Enjoy career growth, development opportunities, and great organisational benefits.

Tātaki Auckland Unlimited (TAU) is Auckland's cultural, events and destination agency. It enriches the cultural life and vibrancy of Auckland through events, experiences and taonga (treasures). Its work connects communities, celebrates identity and grows Auckland's reputation as a world-class place to live, visit and belong. TAU is a proud Auckland Council-controlled organisation.

We are looking for a seasoned Senior Project Manager preferably with proven experience delivering complex civic or technical building projects, along with strong knowledge of critical building systems including electrical, mechanical, fire, structural, and water.

In this role, you will act as the client-side Project Manager, planning, scoping and overseeing the delivery of physical works across our venues. You'll ensure every project is delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards - all within a fast-paced, live environment where the show must go on.

Key responsibilities:
  • Lead the planning, development, and execution of physical works across our buildings and venues.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams, contractors, and consultants to ensure smooth delivery and alignment with organisational goals.
  • Manage project communications, schedules and budgets, maintaining clear oversight of timelines and financial performance.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant standards and regulations.
  • Provide accurate and timely reporting to senior leadership and key stakeholders.

You will likely have experience in similar roles from within large, complex building portfolios and potentially local government organisations. We will be looking for specific experience with the key role requirements provided below:

  • Proven experience in managing venue or building construction or renewal projects
  • High level of problem solving, technical proficiency or experience in managing building services, façade, weathertightness, fit-out or general building renewals projects
  • Exceptional technical, project management and stakeholder communication skills
  • Detailed knowledge of the inner workings of large, publicly accessible and/or events buildings and what it takes to keep them open, fully operational, safe and fit-for-purpose
  • Thorough knowledge of the building code, consents and related regulatory requirements
  • Good understanding of Conditions of Contract for Consultancy Services and NZS3910 contracts
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Likes to mentor and share knowledge
  • Strong understanding of project management methodologies and tools
  • Suitable qualifications in project management, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is desirable but experience counts

We encourage you to apply even if you don't meet every requirement listed. What matters most is your ability to contribute to a collaborative, purpose-driven environment where diverse experiences are valued. We know that transferable skills can come from experience gained from outside of work.

At TAU, you will join a dynamic, supportive environment where your mahi (work) will directly impact the lives of over 1.7 million Aucklanders. We offer flexible working conditions, a focus on well-being, and a culture of continuous improvement.

We are proud to be recognised for our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. We are accredited by GenderTick, a signatory of the Pride Pledge.
